Working Principle
Ultrasonic level meter works according to the transit time
method. The ultrasonic sensor will pulse the ultrasound from
sensor to a measure medium surface and it will be reflected
back from the medium surface due to density change on
medium. Time (t) taken for an ultrasound travel from sensor
and back to the sensor are proportional to the travelled
distance (D). Transmitter detected the time (t) and calculated
the distance (D) according to the know speed of sound (c).
The formula; D = c •t/2
To determine the medium level (L), the sensor installation
height (H) is set in parameters setting. Therefore, it can
calculate the medium level as follows:
The formula; L = H – D
Since speed of sound through air is affected by changes in
temperature, the ultrasonic sensor has integrated a
temperature sensor to improve accuracy.
